Il Comitato Centrale dell’Albo of road haulage contractors - at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation - has promoted and funded 11 projects converging on a single objective: "to road safety as a system."
The meeting, held in Genoa - Saturday, December 3 at the Jolly Hotel Marina from 14:30 - is the second in a series of inter-regional workshops aimed at disseminating the results of various investigations in this and other Italian cities, such as Venice (held last October 21), Ancona, Salerno, Palermo and Florence.

The debate, moderated by the Director of the magazine TIR Fabio Montanaro, is animated by the presence of representatives of trade associations, members of the Central Committee and local law enforcement that are represented by the Regional Director of the compartment of the Ligurian Traffic Police Anthony Bufano, the Head of the Body Accident Section of the Municipal Police in Genoa Francis Vitari and Lieutenant Colonel of the Mobile Radio Unit of the Provincial Command of Genoa Massimo Amadia .
5 areas.
The stated purpose of the Committee is not to exclude any area or field three hundred and sixty degrees and analyze all the possible interventions that make transport (goods) sure to spread all the tools that may be helpful to a reduction of road accidents.
projects have invested five areas: driver safety, vehicle safety, security as a business environment, research and technology support, training and information.
Carried in the three years 2000/03 on 1 sull'incidentalità monitoring in road.
Of particular importance for the results that emerged was the first nation-wide monitoring accident rates related to freight transport in urban areas, suburban area and transportation of dangerous goods.
From 2000 to 2003 the number of accidents involving vehicles for road transport is significantly decreased by 15,721 (7.4% of the national total accidents in 2000) to 14,572 (6.5% of the total incidents recorded in 2003). This result significantly
resize the concurrence of all transport vehicles of the total accidents that occur each year in our country.
After this monitoring has emerged, therefore, a clearer assessment of the role, but not decisive that the road haulage accident rates in the phenomenology in Italy and one can reasonably refute many of those stereotypes that, in daily life, have often contributed to an unfavorable view of road hauliers.
The effect of penalty points.
particularly significant changes were made following the introduction of penalty points, particularly between 2002 and 2003. Suffice it to say that the number of casualties in all accidents in 2003 decreased by 5.6%, while the number of injuries caused by accidents involving goods vehicles and fell further by 11.7%. Even more evident was the decrease in the number of deaths due to accidents: -10.7% on an annual basis, and in this If the number of deaths in accidents involving goods vehicles has declined even more: 12.3%.
Such data can only make us reflect on the effect of the introduction of penalty points system which was certainly more conspicuous in the field of road haulage contractors.
In 2003 only 6.5% of accidents involving goods vehicles.
The results that emerge can be summarized as follows. The component "goods" nell'incidentalità overall in Italy, identified by ISTAT in 2003 was involved in 14,572 accidents, 6.5% of total accidents occurred in Italy in the same year: a significant less than in 2000 given the already reduced the weight of the incidents of road transport vehicles.
conclusions of the investigation.
nell'incidentalità The weight of road traffic is not substantially increased in recent years. Indeed, the number of accidents has decreased, although slightly increased the average number of vehicles involved in accidents. Freight vehicles "light", especially in urban areas have grown, especially in recent years, their involvement in accidents resulting in a pejorative impact on its results.
Giorgio Colato, Vice Chairman of the Central Register Haulage
" In recent years the central committee of road haulage is becoming increasingly specialized in studies and research, providing books on taxation, on the problems of the Alpine passes and sull'incidentalità road. The day today, confirms the choice of the Central Committee of interest to disclose the activity of the studies and researches that are daily point of reference by the Italian government, first and foremost, but also of economists and companies in the world of production, transport and logistic a ".
Rocco Giordano, Head of Studies, Research and Security of the Central Committee
" We want to launch the concept of security as a system. Why road safety is given by three components: the vehicle, the environment and the driver. If we operate on only one side let the other two discovered. Instead, the logic with which we are addressing the issue of security is the concept of the system. We try to understand what spaces there are now to be able to simultaneously check how to create the best possible synergies. - supports the Head of Studies, Research and Security of the Central Committee, Rocco Giordano - From 2000 to 2003 reduced the number of accidents involving the vehicles for road transport: it has gone from 15,721 to 14,572. And the highways are essere più sicure rispetto alla strade statali e provinciali. Infatti, le autostrade non presentano quei fattori di interferenza che rendono più pericolose le strade statali e provinciali. Le aree urbane sono molto sensibili in termini di incidentalità: basti pensare che il 50% degli incidenti del settore dell’autotrasporto viene registrato nelle grandi aree urbane del Paese ”.
